End of an Era: Panini Out, Fanatics In for Premier League Cards

With the recent release of Panini Select Premier League marking the end of an era, Fanatics will now take over the exclusive rights to produce English Premier League trading cards—a seismic shift that will redefine the future of the UK card market.

Topps will take over exclusive Premier League rights starting today on June 1, 2025, as the EPL officially joins Fanatics' growing stable of sports licences, which already includes UEFA and Formula 1 as well as NBA and NFL card licenses, launching official NBA products from October 2025 and NFL products from April 2026. This comes just three years after Fanatics acquired Topps for $500 million and signals an aggressive push into the global football collectibles space. For UK collectors and breakers, this marks the end of Panini’s run with Premier League card products, and the start of a new Fanatics-led era, who now control the three most-watched football competitions in the world—Premier League, Champions League, and Europa League.

UK hobby enthusiasts will hope this consolidation brings improved product design, release cadence, and a secondary market that mirrors the US trading card ecosystem.

Dropped into an already crowded market on May 23, 2025, the 2024/25 Panini Select Serie A set lands as Panini’s latest deep dive into Italy’s top flight.

Released at the same time as the delayed Panini Select Premier League 2024/25 and Panini Select La Liga 2024/25, Panini Select Serie A 2024/25 also hit shelves—flooding an already crowded market with three major releases in a single day. The base set includes recent Serie A winner Scott McTominay, but not his Scottish counterpart Billy Gilmour, with Napoli instead featuring Alex Meret, Frank Anguissa, Giacomo Raspadori, Giovanni Simeone, Romelu Lukaku, Matteo Politano, Stanislav Lobotka, Alessandro Buonglorno, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who transferred to PSG on January 17, 2025. The set features a 250-card base collection divided into three tiers: Terrace, Mezzanine, and Field Level, each with a range of parallels, including the new Bronze Checker and Honeycomb variant. The insert lineup includes Equalizers, Select Future, Unstoppable, and Snapshots; and four case hits—Stained Glass, Artistic Impressions, Visionary, and Team Badges.

Each hobby box averages 3 autographs or memorabilia cards, 7 inserts or insert parallels, 9 unnumbered base parallels, and 5 numbered base parallels, and the product remains available on the Panini America website for $319.95.

Désiré Doué—just 19 years old—was the undisputed breakout star of last night’s Champions League Final, as PSG lifted the 2024/25 trophy in spectacular style, battering Inter Milan 5-0 in the Allianz Arena, Munich.

The teenager’s meteoric rise reached its apex yesterday evening in European football’s showpiece event, as he powered PSG to their first Champions League title, delivering a performance for the ages. In the 24 hours since, his 2022/23 Stade Rennais F.C. Topps rookie cards have gone absolutely ballistic. His two highest-ever sales both occurred today: the 2022/23 Topps Chrome UEFA Club Competitions Black Refractor /10 #48 (PSA 10) and the 2022/23 Topps Finest Red Black Vaporwave /10 #112 (PSA 10) each sold for £3,000—increasing the top end of his market overnight.

Low-pop parallels are being repriced in real time, for example the 2022/23 Topps Chrome UEFA Club Competitions Red Refractor /5 (raw) sold back on April 18 for £555, a number that now looks like a steal. The window for shrewd buying has narrowed considerably, but for investors with timing, there may still be value at the entry level.

This kind of surge creates a tough environment for recommendations. Doué’s market has genuinely gone through the roof, and his trajectory as a hobby asset has changed overnight.
