Behind the Cards
Yamal Superfractor Returns to Auction: Will History Be Rewritten?

(Credit: Card Ladder)
In a stunning twist, the most expensive Lamine Yamal card—the Topps Chrome UEFA Euro 2024 Superfractor Autograph 1/1, graded PSA 10—has resurfaced and is back up for auction on Goldin, just months after its record-breaking £105,000+ sale.
At only 17, Yamal made history as the youngest player to win the UEFA European Championship, and claimed the Young Player of the Tournament award, sending his rookie card prices into overdrive. This Superfractor, featuring Yamal in his Spain kit from Euro 2024, shattered barriers as the first Yamal card to top £100,000 at auction, cementing its status as a modern grail and a symbol of the growing investment potential in football cards. Now, with bidding already at $80,000 and with weeks to go, the hobby is watching closely to see if this card can set another record as it returns to the auction spotlight. A source confirmed that the owner of the card, who is based in Germany, has told collectors on social media that the original sale went unpaid.
Why not track the auction on Goldin and witness the next hobby chapter in the rise of football’s hottest rookie?

2024/25 Topps Chrome UEFA Club Competitions!

2024/25 Topps Chrome UEFA Club Competitions (Credit: Topps)
Topps Chrome UEFA Club Competitions is back, the most anticipated and popular football card product of the release calendar.
Topps Chrome UEFA Champions League debuted in 2017/18 as the brand’s first all-chromium football set, famously featuring the elusive Kylian Mbappé ‘rookie’ that remains one of the hobby’s most sought-after cards today. What began as a Champions League-only product quickly evolved, expanding in 2022/23 to include the Europa League and Conference League, broadening the product’s appeal amongst European collectors. This evolution has delivered larger checklists, more parallels, case hits, and multi-signature cards, giving football collectors a product that rivals the depth and excitement of top North American sports releases.
This year’s set features 200-card base checklist, interesting inserts such as Bowman UEFA Youth League, and case hits such as TIFO and Shadow Etch, plus a tonne of autos including the debut of Chrome Quad-Autos.
Three box formats are available on the Topps UK website: Hobby (20 packs, 1 autograph, available for £170), Jumbo (12 packs, 3 autographs) (currently sold out), and Value (7 packs, exclusive chase cards, available for £30).

Cole Palmer: From City Prospect to Chelsea Sensation
Following last week’s Card Watch on outgoing Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne, I’m staying in the Premier League to spotlight Cole Palmer, whose 2023 transfer from City to Chelsea has transformed him from promising academy product to one of Europe’s brightest young stars.
Cole Palmer’s rise has not been straightforward: Manchester City let him go, Chelsea gave him the stage, and now he’s scored in a major final for England and is widely recognised as one of the best players in the Premier League. Palmer’s on-pitch exploits are increasingly translating into genuine hobby value, with his cards being chased by collectors as the UK hobby matures. For example, his 2024/25 Panini Donruss Kaboom! Gold /10 recently set a record sale for a Palmer card, and his Topps rookie cards, released in season 2021/22 when playing for Man City, seem likely to act as the future foundation of his hobby legacy.
Even so, the highest recorded sale for a Palmer card remains under £3K, and with his real world stock soaring, Palmer’s card prices are unlikely be lagging for long, creating a possible window for shrewd collectors.
Below, I’ve used Card Ladder data to showcase a range of options that highlight the potential value available to collectors across all budgets.
